1.Color is key! Dark colors can make a room look smaller while light colors can make a room look bigger. But if you choose a completely neutral color scheme you can make the space look dull. Just remember, things like paint color and accessories can be easily changed. Going with neutral colored floor tile is a great option as the resale value of your space can increase and will entice new buyers.  

2.Quality matters! Ceramic tile is lightweight and easy to install. It works perfectly for walls or as tile for a backsplash in the kitchen. White ceramic tile is probably the cheapest item you will find. Stick with more durable options like porcelain or stone if you are tiling a floor. The Porcelain Enamel Institute (PEI) has a rating system for tile. Make sure you buy tile that can withstand the amount of foot traffic it will encounter.
